Trust center // rules before rankings

The answer needs a denominator.

Success stories matter. So do the thousands of players who started in the same place. These are the rules that keep both sides of that history visible.

Core definitions

What every number means.

The same rules apply to every league and every season. Newer cohorts remain visible but do not drive mature comparison rates.

01

Reached

At least one official NHL regular-season or playoff appearance through the current outcome file.

02

Established

At least 100 NHL regular-season games for skaters or 50 for goaltenders.

03

Eligible

A league-season participant who had not already appeared in the NHL before that cohort began.

04

Mature cohort

A completed league-season cohort with at least five seasons of observation after its start.

Identity resolution

One player. Many systems.

Names alone are not enough. The archive preserves source identifiers and records how each cross-league link was made.

  1. 01
    Source-native ID

Keep the league or NHL identifier attached to its original record.

  2. 02
    Exact identity match

Reconcile name, birth date, league chronology, and existing identifiers.

  3. 03
    Collision review

Reject ambiguous same-name matches instead of forcing a pathway link.

  4. 04
    Outcome join

Attach the verified NHL appearance and career totals to the canonical player.

Source hierarchy

Official records first.

NHL outcomes

Official NHL player and statistics records define appearances, debut timing, draft status, and career totals.

Outcome authority
League cohorts

Official league statistics define the denominator wherever available. A named established archive may be used only when its complete participant table—including goaltenders—passes the same checks.

Denominator authority
Pathway chronology

League-season records are ordered into a career route without replacing missing seasons with estimates.

Known limitations

Gaps stay visible.

A cancelled season is not a zero. An unavailable participant table is not inferred from standings or a partial roster.

LeagueSeasonReason
AHL

The official Statview selector begins with the 2004–05 regular season. Earlier listed events are All-Star games, while the current official guide supplies yearly standings and leaders—not complete pre-2004 participant tables.

ECHL

OCR candidates retained for review; public database rows intentionally withhold scanned counting stats.

OHL

The official CHL player-statistics selector begins with 1997–98; complete 1989–90 through 1996–97 skater and goaltender exports are not exposed in the public table.

WHL

The official CHL player-statistics selector begins with 1996–97; complete 1989–90 through 1995–96 skater and goaltender exports are not exposed in the public table.

USHL

The official USHL HockeyTech season index declares 2002 as its first season year and exposes regular-season player tables beginning with 2002–03.

NCAA

The established Division I statistical archive exposes complete skater tables back to 1989–90, but its complete goaltender table begins with 1999–2000. Earlier seasons remain denominator gaps until every goalie can be verified.

U SPORTS

U Sports conference season cancelled or not contested

LHJAAAQ

CCHL

No regular season was contested

OJHL

No regular season was contested

MHL

The official HockeyTech seasonsForLeague response begins with the 2018–19 regular season. Request a sanctioned league export or a verified legacy provider archive for the three missing seasons.

NAHL

The current official GameSheet season index begins in 2020–21. The official legacy HockeyTech client remains discoverable, but its published key now returns 'Invalid key'. Request a sanctioned NAHL/HockeyTech export for the five retired-platform seasons.

LHJAAAQ

The official season and team records remain available, but the team profiles omit the player-stat rows needed for a complete denominator. Request a complete 2023–24 participant export; do not reconstruct the cohort from standings or partial rosters.

U SPORTS

AUS and OUA expose deeper records, but the current Canada West participant index begins with 2008–09. Locate a complete official Canada West participant table before extending the national cohort earlier.

SWISS-NL

The complete public SIHF regular-season player and goaltender archive begins in 2008–09; earlier seasons require a federation export or another complete first-party file.

KHL

The official statistics route rejects the archive client, while the league's text-site policy says automated extraction requires official permission.

Slovak Extraliga + 1. Liga

The official Swagger document exposes the required read routes, but an anonymous competitions request returns Not authorized.

Swiss National League · pre-2008

The public SIHF player service exposes 2008–09 and later; the immediately prior season returns no pages. The official contact directory names the API/interface channel.

MESTIS

Verify the complete official player-stat feed and season selector.

VHL

Locate a stable first-party VHL archive feed or sanctioned export.

SWISS-LEAGUE

Verify the Swiss federation competition filter and full-season player table.

DEL2

Verify the DEL2 statistics provider's complete participant endpoint.

SLOVAK-1LIGA

Resume from the official 2025–26 competition route when anonymous access is stable.

J20-NATIONELL

Aggregate the official north, south, continuation, and playoff phases without double counting players.

U20-SM-SARJA

Verify the federation's complete U20 player feed and season IDs.

MHL-RUS

Locate a stable first-party MHL archive feed or sanctioned export.

DNL-U20

Aggregate the official DNL top division and qualifying phases into one deduplicated cohort.

Parallel access program

Every protected archive has a concrete ask.

All 8 request packets are ready but have not been sent. No protected source enters the public denominator until permission or a complete official export is received.
